DESCRIPTION;ALTREP="CID:<FFFF__=0ABBE548DFE235B58f9e8a93d@coffeebean.com>":
Herewith we would like to draw your attention to a session on atmospheric
measurements and instrumentation as part of the upcoming EMS Annual Meetin
g: European Conference for Applied Meteorology and Climatology which is pl
anned to be held in presence at the University of Economics in Bratislava
(Slovakia)\, from 3 to 8 September 2023. The conference will also have an
 online component.\n \nSession UP1.5\, entitled: “Atmospheric measurements:
  Instruments\, experiments\, networks and long-term programs using in-situ
and remote sensing techniques” (UP1.5)\n \nThis session is intended to gi
ve a forum to discuss recent developments and achievements in local to reg
ional measurement concepts and technology. There will be a special emphasi
s on measurements which seek to improve our understanding of complex atmos
pheric processes – especially those characterizing interactions in the cli
mate system – through obtaining comprehensive data sets. The focus is on m
easurements of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics\, energy and water
cycle components\, and on the interaction of the atmosphere with the under
lying surface.\nThe session will also include consideration of novel measu
rement approaches and networks under development for future operational us
e\, e.g.\, within the frame of the Eumetnet observations program and vario
us COST actions (such as PROBE)\, and the performance of new measurement t
echniques. Manufacturers of hydro-meteorological instruments and system so
lutions are thus explicitly invited to present news on sensor development\
, sensor performance and system integration.\nTechniques may cover in-situ
and remote sensing measurements from various platforms. Special attention
will be given to the creation of a new generation of reliable unmanned in
strument networks across Europe that provide calibrated and controlled dat
a on the boundary layer structure in near-real time. This also includes me
trological aspects of sensor characterization. Contributions are also invi
ted that make use of advanced data sets for satellite data validation.\n
\nWith reference to the special conference focus (“Europe and droughts”) w
e particularly invite contributions on measurements of soil moisture and e
vaporation\n \nAdditional information on the Annual Meeting of EMS can be
found here: http://www.ems2023.eu/home.html\n \nThe deadline for abstract
submission is April 18\, 2023.\n \nWe very much look forward to your contr
ibution to this session. We really hope to meet again many of you in reali
 ty in Bratislava.\n \nWith kind regards\n \nFrank Beyrich (DWD\, Lindenber
 g\, Germany)\nMariska Koning (KNMI\, De Bilt\, The Netherlands)\nJens Bang
 e (Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen\, Germany)\nNico Cimini (CNR-IMAA\,
  Potenza &amp\; CETEMPS\, L’Aquila\, Italy)\n
